I was horrified to see how long it’s been since I’ve released an update to Papercut. I do have some lame excuses like “work has been keeping me busy” but it’s time to get back on the paper trail. I was in the middle of fixing image rotation, which would allow photo-dodecahedra to be more [... ]

Category: Software, robotics, chumby
A recent project I’ve had a lot of fun with involves using off-the-shelf components and some good old-fashioned software development. It started out with my work at Chumby.com on the Flash Lite player. I needed to explore using a Flash movie for robotic control via RS-232. The outcome is what I have here. Ingredients: Chumby. About Henry Groover

Grew up in the Washington DC area, lived in New York, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, England, and India. I've been programming for over 25 years, and have also taught, cooked, and done other things. When I was a boy, software engineering was the last thing I saw myself doing - I either wanted to be a musician or a mathematician. My dad was an Operations Research Analyst at the Pentagon, and I just didn't see myself doing that. My life hasn't unfolded exactly the way I might have envisioned it 35 years ago, but there's very little I truly regret.

I currently live in San Diego, California with my wife and 2.5-year-old son. Among my hobbies are developing and testing Papercut , the paper modeling software for Windows which helps you to make geometric solids out of paper. The URL for PaperCut is http://paper-model.com and it can also be found on SourceForge at http://papercut.sourceforge.net. I've also published some of my Sanskrit translation work eponymously.

The banner image above is from a 300-degree panorama shot I took from a mesa outcrop near where I used to work. It's actually 7 pictures stitched together. The camera, a Pentax Optio S6, has a panorama assist mode. I've uploaded a few of my pictures which I take whenever I have the chance.
